The Utah Jazz Bantam League is a competitive program focused on player development to prepare young athletes for High School Basketball. By bridging the gap between recreational play and high school athletics, the league provides a structured environment where players can refine their technical skills and tactical understanding. The program emphasizes regional competition through conferences and area-based divisions, culminating in statewide playoffs to determine a Utah State Champion. Additionally, the league supports the broader basketball community through coach development via the Utah Coaches Collective and referee training initiatives.

Jazz Bantam serves grades 3-8, with the goal of preparing players for high school athletics.

• Fall Season with Crossover Cup: Nov. 2 – Dec. 16. This season features a 7-game guarantee, which includes five regular-season games followed by two Crossover Cup games. Please note that games will be held on the Monday of Thanksgiving week. Important deadlines for the Fall season include:
  • Fall Registration: July 1 – Sept. 27
  • Fall Tryouts/Team Placement: Aug. 1 – Sept. 20
  • Jersey Order Deadline: Sept. 27
• Winter Season with Statewide Playoffs: Jan. 4 – Feb. 27. This season offers a 9-game guarantee plus participation in the Statewide Playoffs for qualifying teams at no additional cost. Key dates and events for the Winter season include:
  • Winter Registration: Oct. 5 – Dec. 1
  • Winter Tryouts/Team Placement (Optional): Nov. 1 – 21
  • Jersey Order Deadline: Dec. 1
  • All-Star Event: Date TBD
• A one-time Bantam Pack fee of $85 per player is required once per year (Good for Fall & Winter Season). This pack provides essential gear and exclusive benefits for participants.

Games and practices are hosted at high schools within your specific geographical region or school district to support local high school development pipelines. Designated host high schools facilitate these sessions, and in some instances, high schools that host games receive annual donations to their athletic programs. While the league manages scheduling, teams are responsible for acquiring their own gym time for practices, which can range from frequent access to limited availability depending on the region. For the Mountain Flight, specifically during the winter season, games are held on weekdays only.

Jazz Bantam teams are primarily led by parent volunteers or by coaches associated with the high school program they represent. These individuals play a critical role in supporting the high school development pipeline by following district policies and maintaining league integrity. Additionally, the league supports these leaders through the Utah Coaches Collective, which provides ongoing coach development opportunities to help them shape the future of youth basketball in their local areas.

• Team formation typically occurs through tryouts or placement camps hosted by affiliated high school programs. Depending on the specific coach, clubs or parents may be permitted to organize independent teams for certain age groups, provided they adhere to high school boundary regulations. In regions where the high school is an official Utah Jazz Bantam Basketball partner, these independent teams must obtain approval from the high school coach.

IMPORTANT: In areas without an official high school partnership, coaches or parents can form teams and enter Utah Jazz Bantam Basketball leagues and tournaments independently. This does not require high school coach approval, as long as all boundary rules are strictly followed.

• Utah Jazz Bantam is Utah’s premier competitive youth basketball league, specifically designed for boy and girl athletes in grades 3-8 who are seeking a more advanced and structured developmental experience. As a competitive program, Bantam serves as a critical bridge between recreational play and high school athletics, requiring participants to possess established technical skills and a tactical understanding of the game. Participation is governed by a strict High School Boundary Rule to support local development pipelines. Athletes must live within the boundary of the high school program they represent or have a clear intent to enroll there. While most teams are formed through tryouts or placement camps hosted by affiliated high schools between August and September, independent teams may be permitted if they adhere to these residency regulations and obtain necessary approvals.
• The league offers distinct competitive tiers, including the Mountain Flight for elite play, the City Flight for highly competitive talent pools, and the Desert Flight for teams focused on growth in a moderately competitive environment. For those who are still developing their skills or seeking a less intensive experience, the Junior Jazz program remains the recommended option for recreational team play in your local area.
